The hotel, occupying a beautiful 18th century town house, sits on the banks of the Meuse in the neighbourhood of Saint-Hilaire in Givet. As you exit the hotel, enjoy wandering the historic streets of this neighbourhood with the famous Église Saint-Hilaire as its hub. This church was completely reconfigured by the esteemed architect the Marquis de Vauban after its initial destruction, and Victor Hugo wrote some memorable, favourable words of its bell tower. The Fort de Charlemont, built by Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, lies a bit further up and dominates Givet just as it did nearly 500 years ago.
Once you’ve done everything in the town, head to the green and contrasting landscapes of the vast Regional Natural Park of the Ardennes. As well as on a boat trip, you can take to the River Meuse yourself in canoes or rowing boats. Our hotel rents out bikes, and we can also give you some good advice on how to tackle the Trans-Ardennes cycle route. Across the Meuse Valley, you’ll discover exceptional sites and charming towns such as Monthermé, Revin and Joigny.
Don’t just stop at the Natural Park, though. There’s the rest of the French Ardennes to discover, in particular the Rimbaud Verlaine Trail leading to the town of Charleville-Mézières. In the Belgian Ardennes, dive into a natural landscape dotted with castles, fortresses and citadels that are remnants of the region’s feudal past. Less than half an hour from the hotel, Dinant and the picturesque villages of the Lesse Valley also provide sweet escapes.
Bike rental
Here at Le Val Saint Hilaire, we provide mountain bike hire for discovering the Trans-Ardennes cycle route, located close to the hotel.
